Just got back from Phoenix and the sprawl there is actually insane

I visited Phoenix last month for a few days to look at maybe moving there. I knew it was big but driving from one side to the other took me like 45 minutes and I barely even went past the city limits. The neighborhoods just keep going with no real center or downtown feel, it's all strip malls and housing developments stacked on each other. The heat was one thing, but the way everything is spread out made me feel like I'd need a car just to breathe. I talked to a local at a diner who said it takes him an hour to get to work each way because he couldn't afford to live closer. Is anyone else seeing cities like Phoenix just grow sideways with no plan or am I being too harsh on it?

That diner guy who drives an hour each way, did he say if the job pays enough to make that worth it or is he just stuck?

Reminds me of my uncle who drove 45 mins for a sandwich shop job he hated.

That Phoenix trip made me rethink the whole sprawl thing honestly.
