Can we talk about the real cost of reliable internet while nomading?
I was scrolling through the Nomad List forums last night and found a stat that stopped me cold: the average digital nomad spends $150 a month on mobile data plans alone. Not counting coffee shop wifi or co-working spaces, just cellular data. That shocked me because I've been using a single $40 T-Mobile plan for 6 months in Thailand and Mexico, and it's worked fine for video calls. Am I just getting lucky, or are people really dropping that much on connectivity? Anyone else tracking what they actually pay?

Wait, isn't $150 just the price of actually being able to work though...

Man, I'm out here spending $150 a month on burritos alone so maybe I should reconsider my whole life. Your luck is making me feel personally attacked in my wallet.

That $150 stat actually hit me hard because I used to think people were just being dramatic about internet costs. I was that person who'd brag about my $10 unlimited data plan in Vietnam and assume anyone spending more was just bad at budgeting. But then I spent a month in Medellin and realized my cheap plan was useless during afternoon thunderstorms, so I ended up paying $60 for a backup Claro hotspot just to keep working. Plus, when you factor in eSIMs for short stops in places like Japan or South Korea where you might stay three weeks, those $30-40 short-term plans add up fast. So yeah, I finally get it now - that $150 number isn't about overpaying, it's about what reliable access actually costs when you stop accepting the "good enough" plan.
