Got hit with a $400 fine because I didn't update my address

Moved to Chiang Mai last month and thought forwarding my mail through a service was enough. Didn't realize my car insurance back home was mailing cancellation notices to my old place, and now I owe a lapse fee. Anyone else get burned by something dumb like forgetting to switch your official address on a bill or registration?

Used to think forwarding mail caught everything too, but you really have to switch the address directly with each company. Forwarding services miss stuff like insurance or registration notices all the time, learned that the hard way. Your mileage may vary but it's worth double checking every account manually, saved me from a similar mess.

Yo, did I learn that the hard way too? First time I moved, I thought the USPS form was a magic wand and ended up with my car insurance going to my old place for like six months. Embarrassing. Had to pay a late fee and everything before I wised up and changed it myself. You ever had a close call like that?

Wait, doesn't forwarding mail actually work for insurance and registration if you fill out the official USPS change of address form? I thought the whole point was they forward everything including official docs.
