Spent 3 weeks hunting for the perfect van build spot in Colorado...
Finally found a sweet spot near Buena Vista, only to realize it was smack in the middle of a fire ant colony. My camping chair went airborne in about 2 seconds flat. Anyone else's dream location turn into a total bug nightmare?

Read somewhere that fire ants actually build their mounds facing the sun, so maybe that's why they picked that spot too. Can't imagine hiking all that gear out only to get swarmed like that.

3 years dealing with them in Texas told me to always check the mound direction first.

Oof, that's rough. Fire ants are the absolute worst, they don't even give you a warning. Buena Vista's gorgeous but I guess the bugs know it too. Good tip on checking mound direction, I'll have to remember that for next time.
