Had a scary moment on duty, all because I trusted the wrong nutrition info on a drink label

Last Tuesday, my friend in the fire service had a similar issue with an energy drink. He trusted the 'low carb' claim but it spiked his blood sugar during a call. What kind of duty were you on when this happened? Was it a specific ingredient like maltodextrin that wasn't clear on the label? I've seen labels list sugars as 'evaporated cane juice' to hide the real content. How bad was the reaction you had?

Those "zero sugar" claims have gotten me before too. My stomach still hasn't forgiven me for that electrolyte drink debacle.

Hearing about your electrolyte drink mess makes me cringe. @the_vera is totally right about labels hiding sugars with fancy names. My own guts have staged protests after trusting "sugar free" junk. Companies really need to stop playing games with what they put in these drinks. Honestly, it's no wonder people end up feeling betrayed by a bottle of so-called healthy stuff.
