Overheard a guy at Home Depot say he spends 3 hours a week organizing his toolbox drawer dividers
I was grabbing some drywall anchors and this dude was next to me, talking to his friend about how he color codes his socket wrenches by brand. He said it saves him 10 minutes per project. I spent 20 minutes last night trying to find my 10mm socket and gave up. Maybe he's on to something or maybe he just likes playing with plastic bins. Has anyone else gotten really into organizing their tools to the point it becomes the hobby itself?

Yeah I used to roll my eyes at that level of organization but honestly after losing my 7/16 socket for the third time last week I'm starting to see the light!

It's kind of funny how we'll spend hours optimizing tiny things to save minutes, like that guy's whole vibe reminds me of how people get super into meal prepping or color coding their closet. It's like the organizing becomes the real hobby and the actual project is just an excuse.

Three hours a week on organizing tools? That's not saving time, that's a whole different hobby pretending to be efficiency. The guy who spends 180 hours a year arranging socket wrenches by brand has probably lost more time than any misplaced socket ever could cost him. If you actually did the math on your 20 minutes of searching versus his three hours of drawer Tetris, the numbers don't even come close to making sense. People just like feeling productive and organized without actually doing the hard work of a real project.
