Overheard a guy at the coffee shop say he spends 8 hours a week organizing his digital photos

He said it's cheaper than therapy and he never loses a memory now. Has anyone else tried this for their own hobby archive, or am I just asking for digital clutter?

casey268 nailed it - keeping it simple with yearly folders works way better for me than going crazy with detail.

My brother in law Dave got into this during lockdown. He spent three months cataloging every single photo from 2005 to 2020. Now he's got folders like 'summer road trip 2011 part 2' and it drives my sister crazy because he won't let her just scroll through her camera roll. She says it feels like a filing cabinet instead of memories. He does have a point though - last week he pulled up a picture from 2008 of our dog eating a whole pizza and we'd all forgotten that happened.

Does Dave spend more time looking at the actual photos now that they're organized, or is he just focused on keeping the system perfect?
