The way people organize their yarn stash drives me up a wall

I've been knitting for about 4 years now and I keep seeing folks at my local craft group just shoving all their yarn into big plastic bins. They mix acrylic with wool and random scraps with full skeins. Then they spend 20 minutes digging through everything to find the right color for a project. I started sorting mine by weight and fiber type last spring and it cut my project prep time by half. Am I the only one who thinks a little order makes the hobby way more fun?

Wait, have you ever watched someone try to pull a tangled ball of half-used acrylic out of a giant tote full of mixed fibers? My friend Sarah used to do the color bin thing too until she spent an hour untangling a mohair strand from some cheap worsted acrylic that somehow got wrapped around a wooden needle. She finally gave up and just cut the whole mess out with scissors and threw half her stash in the trash. Now she sorts by weight first with little dividers in clear shoeboxes and tells anyone who will listen that random color bins are a trap for impatient people. I swear she’s cut her project starting time down to like five minutes tops.

Your plastic bin people stress me out too. Color coded by shade and then by weight over here. Way faster to grab what I need for a project.

Oh I have to respectfully disagree! For me, grabbing a bin by color is way more satisfying than hunting through shades.
