I finally fixed my toilet after 3 hours because of a stupid wax ring
So my toilet started rocking a bit last week and I figured I just needed to tighten the bolts. Spent like an hour trying to get it stable but it kept moving. Ended up pulling the whole thing off and realized the wax ring was completely flattened and dried out. Replacement took 15 minutes. The other 2 hours 45 minutes was just me being stubborn and not wanting to admit I had to uninstall it. Anyone else ever fight a simple fix for way too long?

Did you check if the flange was cracked or rotten underneath while you had the toilet off? That’d explain why the wax ring gave out so fast in the first place.

Yeah @sethm58 you're probably right, I didn't think to look underneath until it was too late. That old flange could've been cracked for months, just slowly getting worse. Gonna tackle that first thing next time instead of rushing to slap a new ring on.
