My 83 year old grandma used to yell at me for WD-40ing everything. She always said silicone spray was the real answer for wood stuff. Last month I spent an hour trying to fix a stuck window sash and finally caved and bought the silicone spray. It literally took 10 seconds and the window glides like new. I used to think it was just marketing hype but now I keep a can in the kitchen and one in the garage.

Honestly WD-40 has its place for things that need moisture displacement, not just lube though.

Man I had a buddy who swore by WD-40 until he tried silicone on his squeaky screen door and called me all excited about it.
