Got slapped with a $350 fee because I was 3 days late on a credit card payment

I was up on a roof installing some luxury vinyl plank last Tuesday and totally spaced on my credit card due date. Came home, saw the email from Capital One saying I owed a late fee plus interest charges that stacked up to $350 for being just 3 days late. Called them up thinking they'd waive it since I've been a customer for 6 years, but the rep said they only do that once every 2 years and I already used that last September. I get that it's my fault for not setting autopay, but $350 feels like a ripoff for being a few days late. Has anyone else had luck getting these fees reversed or do I just need to switch banks?

Read your terms. They spelled it out. You just ignored it.

I get what you're saying but in my experience the terms on some of these services are written in a way that's intentionally hard to follow. Page 14 buried clauses are pretty common and most people don't have hours to read through everything. Sure it's technically spelled out but that doesn't make it fair or user friendly. Your mileage may vary of course.

Did you try emailing their support directly? That's what I had to do when their terms buried a renewal clause on page 14 and it got sorted in a day.
