Switched to routed vans instead of box trucks and it paid off

I was convinced box trucks were the only way to go for my pest control routes here in Phoenix. But after my buddy kept pushing me to try a routed van setup, I finally gave in 3 months ago. Cost me $18k to convert one van with shelves and chemical storage, and I thought it was a waste. Turns out I can fit way more equipment and still zip through tight neighborhoods. Gas savings alone are like $150 a month per van now. Has anyone else made the switch and seen big changes in their daily workflow?

Agreed completely. I switched my landscaping crew to routed sprinters and saw the same kind of gas savings right away. The maneuverability in tight subdivisions is a game changer for daily dropoffs.

Yo hold on @ryan_hart38 I gotta push back a little here lmao. I ran sprinters for a bit and the gas savings never really added up once you factor in the maintenance costs on those things. The transmissions on the newer models are a nightmare, and the repair bills wiped out any fuel savings I saw. Plus in my experience the maneuverability in tight spots is nice until you gotta haul anything heavy, then the springs just give out way too fast. Not saying they're terrible, but I think people overhype the savings when the total cost of ownership is way higher than a regular van setup.

Oh wait, Phoenix heat plus chemical storage in a van is rough.
