Just realized my client was right about their pain after checking my own form
I was training a guy last week at my gym in Portland and he kept saying his lower back hurt during deadlifts. I told him to brace harder but it kept happening. Then I filmed myself doing a set and saw I was rounding my lower back too. Now I'm rethinking how I cue everyone on hip hinge mechanics. Anyone else have a client point out something that made you look in the mirror?

I used to be one of those people who thought it was always a core strength or bracing issue when someone complained about back pain during deadlifts. But honestly, a client filming me from the side at the gym showed me I was subtly doing the same thing after a long set. That really shook me up because I had been so sure of my own form. It forced me to go back and look at my own mechanics, not just shout cues louder. Now I tell people it's way easier to see rounding on video than to feel it yourself, especially when you're tired. Big reality check for sure.

That line about "shout cues louder" really hit home, @the_olivia. What specific changes did you make to your setup or bracing after you saw the video of yourself? Because most people just cue "chest up" harder instead of fixing why they're losing position.
