Checked out a coffee shop for remote work and noticed nobody was actually working
Went to this new spot called Brew Lab on 3rd Street last Tuesday because my internet at home was acting up. I sat there for about 2 hours and counted maybe 15 people with laptops open but only 3 of them were actually typing or clicking anything serious. Most folks were just scrolling their phones or chatting with the baristas between sips. It felt more like a social hangout disguised as a workspace than a place to get stuff done. Has anyone else run into this trend where coffee shops market themselves as work friendly but the vibe is all talk?

3 laptops barely doing anything in 2 hours is kind of weak. People calling that a workspace vibe sounds like a cope to me honestly. If I'm trying to grind out some code and someone next to me is treating it like a Starbucks lounge with better lighting, it's annoying. The barista chat thing is real too, I've seen people camp for ages just sipping one drink and talking about pour over methods like it's a TED talk. Relaxed is fine but don't call it a remote work spot if nobody is actually working there.

Nah, I actually like the relaxed vibe for getting creative work done.

Three laptops doing "barely anything" in 2 hours sounds like they're just there for the wifi and a cold brew, not actually getting work done lol. Is a quiet coffee shop really killing your productivity that bad?
