That time I took a $50 logo job just for the testimonial and it landed me a $1,200 branding gig 2 weeks later
Did the logo in like an hour and asked the guy to write a paragraph about working with me, then stuck that review on my portfolio page and it convinced the next client I was legit enough to pay real money.

It's funny how ONE good review can change people's whole idea of what you're worth in ANY line of work.

That one review you got from a client who paid you $50 is not the same thing as a real professional track record. I've seen people get a single glowing review from their mom's friend and suddenly they're charging triple rates and wondering why nobody sticks around. A review is just a snapshot of one person's experience on one day, it doesn't prove you can handle complex projects or deadlines. The real test is what happens when you have ten reviews and half of them are just okay then you know where you actually stand.

@kim_davis nailed it, honestly. That one review is basically a magic trick for your brain. I spent more time obsessing over the font size on that $50 logo than I did on the actual design, lol. But seeing it on my page with that testimonial, it just made me look like I knew what I was doing. Next guy saw it and was like "oh cool this person isn't a total scam" and boom, real money. It's wild how a few sentences can flip a switch in a client's head.
