Took a $200 gig from a guy on Craigslist and it turned into a total nightmare

Met this dude at a Starbucks in downtown Phoenix and he seemed super legit, talked a big game about his startup. After I finished the logo and website mockups, he ghosted me for 3 weeks then said he "went in a different direction" and refused to pay. Now I always ask for 50% up front before I even open my laptop for a stranger.

Did he ever show you a portfolio of his own?

Did he show you any proof at all, or was it just smooth talk the whole time? People who can actually do the work usually have something to show for it, even if it's just a few photos on their phone. If he dodged that question or made excuses, that's a major red flag right there. I've seen way too many people get strung along by someone who talks a big game but can't back it up with anything real.
