I finally figured out why my tenants kept breaking the garbage disposal

Turned out the previous manager installed a 1/2 horsepower model in a 4-unit building, and after three disposals in two years I just switched to a 3/4 horsepower unit for $150 more and haven't had a call about it since - anyone else dealing with cheap hardware from the last guy?

Feel your pain on that one. Cheap equipment always ends up costing more in the long run with callbacks and headaches. Glad the upgrade sorted it out for you.

Those cheap parts feel like a deal until you're standing in a hot attic on a Saturday, same as cheap shoes that fall apart after a month... you end up paying more in the long run anyway. It's like that pattern where people buy a cheap lawnmower every two years instead of one good one that lasts a decade. Guess we all learn that lesson the hard way eventually.

Wondering what cheap equipment you had the worst luck with specifically. Was it a brand that looked decent online but gave out after a season or two? I've seen guys buy the bargain bin stuff just to save a few bucks, then end up spending twice as much on repairs and lost time. Kind of makes you question if the upfront savings are ever worth the headache down the road.
