Landlord wants to handle his own repairs, now the tenant is stuck with a swamp

Had a property in Dayton where the AC went out last Tuesday, and the owner insisted he could fix it himself to save money. He spent two days tinkering, then called me saying the compressor was shot and he needed a referral. I got a tech out there Thursday, but the quote came back at $2,850 and he's still deciding whether to replace or repair. Meanwhile the tenant has a window unit I loaned them, but it's 92 degrees and the humidity is awful. I keep going back and forth, is it better to let owners handle their own stuff to keep costs low, or should I push back harder and demand licensed pros from the start? Has anyone else dealt with an owner who thinks YouTube beats a trained HVAC guy?

Honestly the owner saved you from having a headache job come back and bite you, cause if you hired the first tech you found he might've overcharged for parts or done a half assed job. Yeah the tenant is sweating now, but that's on the owner for dragging his feet, not on you for letting him try, and sometimes a stubborn guy learns his lesson the hard way so he won't cheap out next time. If you demand licensed pros every time, you're just fighting battles that aren't yours, and owners who want to DIY are gonna do it anyway whether you approve or not.
