Small win: stopped a leak before the HOA got involved

Had a tenant call me Saturday morning about water dripping from a bathroom ceiling. Instead of panicking and calling an emergency plumber for $300, I went up to the unit above and found a loose supply line on the toilet. Tightened it with a wrench in 2 minutes, no parts needed. Saved $300 and the headache of dealing with an HOA violation report. Anyone else find small fixes like this that make you feel like a hero?

Right, so you're basically a plumbing superhero now, cape and all. Just don't quit your day job to fight toilet-related crime, we've got enough of those. Next time you'll be fixing leaks with nothing but a toothpick and some gum, saving everyone a fortune. The HOA probably has a dartboard with your face on it now, but that's a small price to pay for a dry ceiling.

Sounds like you've got your hands full with that one, hope it holds up!

Nah, I gotta push back a little on that. The cape's more of a liability than a tool, especially when you're elbow-deep in a pipe under a sink. Toothpick and gum? Maybe in a pinch for a temporary fix, but I'd never trust that for a real repair - that's how you end up with a bigger mess and a higher water bill. HOA's probably just glad someone's handling the building's old corroded pipes instead of letting them burst, even if my repair methods aren't exactly textbook.
