A client told me my proposals were too 'salesy' and it stung at first

They said it felt like I was reading off a script instead of actually listening to their problem, so I cut the buzzwords and started every proposal with a direct quote from our conversation. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made them totally redo their template?

Three years ago I had a client tell me the exact same thing and I did the complete opposite of what you did. @the_john is right that it stung but I actually leaned harder into the sales language. I started putting things like "paradigm shift" and "leveraging synergies" in bold just to see if it was really the problem or just that one client's preference. You know what happened? My close rate went up 15 percent that quarter. Some people actually want the script because it feels professional and prepared instead of feeling like you're making it up as you go. Those buzzwords exist for a reason they signal to certain clients that you know what you're talking about in their industry. Maybe the issue isn't the salesy part but just that one person's personal taste.

Oh man that stung just reading it lol but honestly that's such good advice. Starting with their own words is a great way to show you were actually paying attention.
