Watched a guy go from $15 logos to $800 branding packages in one year

There's a designer I follow on Instagram who started out doing logos for $15 on Fiverr back in 2021. He switched his whole approach last spring after he got burned by a client who demanded 12 revisions for that $15. Now he only takes on local businesses near his spot in Nashville and charges a flat $800 for a brand kit. Am I wrong for thinking the before price was way too low and the after price still feels like a bargain for actual custom work?

Wait, 12 revisions for $15? That's insane, honestly. I'm surprised he didn't just ghost the client after round 3. I mean, that's less than minimum wage when you break down the hours. Tbh, going from that nightmare to a flat $800 for a full brand kit sounds like he finally learned his worth. Ngl, $800 still feels cheap for custom work that's made for a real business, not some template. At that price he's probably still undercharging but at least he's not getting ripped off anymore.

The jump from $15 to $800 is wild but honestly it makes total sense. Once you work with real businesses who actually need a brand that helps them sell stuff you realize the value of what you're doing. I've seen freelancers in my area charge $1500 for a brand kit and they're booked out for months. The $15 gigs attract people who don't know what they want and want everything for free. The $800 clients come in with a budget and trust you to do your thing. It's a whole different world when you stop racing to the bottom and start charging what you're worth.

And honestly, that $800 is probably still on the low end if he's doing real custom work with multiple concepts and revisions built in. I've seen designers in mid-sized markets like Nashville charge $1200-$2000 easy for a brand kit that includes a logo, color palette, fonts, and maybe a few mockups. The thing is, once you start working with actual business owners who need to look professional, they get that you're solving a real problem for them. A $15 logo is basically a gamble. You might get something usable, but it's also just as likely to be a Canva template with the wrong font. An $800 brand kit means he's actually sitting down and thinking about what their business needs which is why he's probably swamped with local clients now.
