A designer told me my portfolio was too busy and she was right

She said I should cut half my projects and lead with just three strong ones. I dropped from 12 pieces to 5 and my inbox went from quiet to getting 3 requests last week.

Whoa, hard disagree on cutting down that much. A dozen projects shows range and versatility which a lot of clients actually need to see before they trust you with bigger stuff. You might have just gotten lucky with those three hitting the right vibe at the right time.

That range thing matters way more for landing initial conversations than people give it credit for. I've watched friends spend weeks polishing a tiny portfolio only to get ghosted because the client couldn't picture them handling something outside that narrow focus. Having a dozen solid examples lets you pivot the conversation depending on what the client is actually worried about. It's not about looking desperate or unfocused, it's about having proof you can adapt when things shift.
