Vent: Lost a negotiation because I brought my kid to the meeting
I was meeting a potential client at a coffee shop in Austin last week and brought my toddler because the sitter cancelled last minute. The client spent the whole time making faces at my kid instead of talking numbers, and when I brought up my rate of $75 an hour he just nodded and said "sure." Has anyone else had a weird distraction totally throw off a rate discussion?

Did the client actually pay the full $75 an hour with no argument?

Ask if he actually put that in writing or just shook on it. Lots of people agree to a rate in person then act confused when the invoice shows up. Did he give a time estimate upfront too, or did the job run longer and suddenly the rate didn't feel so fair?

Took my kid to a diner meeting once and the guy offered me double just to babysit for an hour.
