Can we talk about the $200 ergonomic chair I bought that turned into a back saver after 2 months

I shelled out $200 for a secondhand Herman Miller chair off Craigslist three years ago and it has saved my lower back from the 10 hour coding sessions I pull every week, but has anyone else found that the armrests wear out way faster than the rest of the chair?

200 dollars secondhand for a Herman Miller is a steal but those armrests are a total afterthought. They feel like they were designed to fall apart just so you have to buy a whole new chair in a few years.

You keep saying "total afterthought" but I've got to wonder - is it really that bad? I had a Herman Miller for almost 8 years and the armrests held up fine. They're not super fancy but they're not falling apart either. Maybe you got a lemon or the previous owner didn't take care of them. People blame planned obsolescence for everything these days. Sometimes a piece of plastic just wears out after a decade of use.

Totally get what you're saying @emma_lee22 but I keep wondering about those armrests though. 8 years is a decent run but for a chair that costs that much new, shouldn't they last longer than a cheap office chair's? I've heard some people say the padding just flattens out weird after a while, not even the plastic part breaking. Maybe it depends on which model you had?
