Back in 2018 I thought charging by the project was a scam

I was dead set on hourly billing for years. Then a web dev buddy in Austin showed me his books. He was pulling $1500 for a wordpress build that would have taken me 25 hours at my rate. Took me 2 more years and one nightmare client who called me 14 times in a week to finally switch. Anyone else fight the flat rate switch for way too long?

Did that client also text you at 2am asking for free revisions?

Nah, actually I'm going to defend the late night texter here. If someone is working late and a thought pops into their head about a project, why wait until 9am when they might forget it? I've sent plenty of late night messages to my own clients and they never seemed to mind. The "free revisions" thing is a separate problem though, that's just bad boundaries on both sides. If you never set clear limits on what's included, clients will keep pushing to see how much they can get for free.
