Had the worst Tuesday in years with a client who wanted 'creative input' for $25 an hour
I had this one gig last week where a lady wanted me to rewrite her entire website copy, do a full blog calendar, and fix her email sequences. She offered $25 an hour and said I could work from home (which I already do, so that wasn't a perk). I told her my rate is $65 minimum for content work like that. She came back saying she could "find someone on Fiverr for $10" and that my price was "unrealistic for a beginner." I've been freelance writing for 6 years now (started part time while plumbing to pay the bills). I just said "good luck with that" and moved on. Has anyone else had a client try to use the Fiverr threat like that?

The $25 an hour offer plus the Fiverr threat is such a classic move from people who don't value what we do. Did she actually think you'd fold and accept less because some random person on Fiverr might do shoddy work for peanuts? That's like telling a mechanic you can get your brakes done at Jiffy Lube for $50 - sure, you can, but good luck with that. Six years of experience plus plumbing work on the side means you know your worth, so good on you for walking away. The real question is why these clients think "I can find cheaper" somehow changes the quality of your work or your time. You dodged a headache.

Cheaper work usually costs more in the long run, @fionat55.

Nodding along to this, the Fiverr threat is basically them admitting they don't care about quality they just want the cheapest possible body in the seat. You're saving yourself the headache of a client who'll fight you on every bill and blame you when their cheap shortcut fails in a month.
