My own mom told me my graphic design rates were too high for someone self-taught

She said I should charge half what I do since I don't have a degree, and it stung way more than any client lowball ever has. Has anyone else had family undermine their pricing like that?

Isn't it funny how people think being self-taught means you should work for peanuts, but nobody tells a plumber or mechanic they're overcharging just because they learned on the job?

Wait, is this really that big of a deal? If you're getting clients at higher rates, that's all that matters. Most of the advice people throw around is just opinions, not rules. I've raised prices twice in the last year just because I felt like it and nobody said a word. Your business, your call.
