My neighbor the plumber changed my mind about taking any work during slow months
Had a chat with my neighbor Dave last Thursday while we were both raking leaves. He's been a plumber for 20 years and said when things get quiet he turns down small easy jobs on purpose because they keep him from finding the bigger ones. That hit different for me because I've been grabbing every $50 writing gig during December slumps and wondering why I'm still broke. Anyone else ever try ignoring the small stuff and hunting bigger fish instead?

Totally agree with @fionat55, it's the same trap for freelancers. Chasing $50 gigs just keeps you stuck in the small stuff forever.

Dave's got a point about the big fish taking more work to land. I've been in that same boat before with freelance stuff, taking $25 jobs for quick cash and missing out on a single $500 project that would've paid way better for less hassle.
