Ran into an old mentor at the hardware store last Tuesday
He told me he never takes a gig under $500 anymore because the slow months taught him that cheap work just fills your calendar with more stress, not more money.

$500? Man, I'd take a $200 job right now if it keeps the lights on and leads to three more down the road. Those slow months are exactly when you need to grab whatever comes through the door.

See, I gotta respectfully disagree on that one. Taking low paying gigs can sometimes trap you in a cycle where you're too busy with small stuff to go after the bigger clients. I mean, there's a fine line between staying afloat and selling yourself short on your actual worth.

Had a painter buddy who turned down small jobs for a whole year, then ended up taking a $100 fence paint gig just to buy groceries that December. Walked away from that thinking maybe there's a middle ground somewhere between starving and turning your nose up at work.
