The 'just charge more' advice drove me nuts until I actually tried it on a small job
I kept hearing people say raise your rates and I thought they were nuts. Then I bumped a $200 logo project to $350 for a bakery in Portland and they didn't even blink, just said 'sounds good.' Has anyone else noticed clients actually respect you more when you stop lowballing yourself?

Higher rates can backfire though. Some clients will ghost you the second they see a bigger number, especially if they're small businesses on tight budgets. Getting a quick acceptance doesn't mean everyone will stick around when you price yourself out of their range.

Funny how the same thing works for everything, you charge more and suddenly people treat you better.

Actually I think it's more about the kind of clients you attract with those higher rates, not that everyone suddenly treats you better. You still get people who try to haggle or push boundaries, but the ones who respect your time are usually the ones who don't blink at the price. @kellyallen made a good point though about small businesses ghosting you. I've had that happen too, but honestly those were never going to be the long term clients I wanted anyway. It's not that everyone treats you better, it's that you filter out the ones who don't really value what you do. The same people who were nice before will still be nice, and the rude ones just stop messaging you.
