Traded my usual $400 retainer for a barter deal with a local bakery

I took three dozen bagels and a coffee subscription instead of cash last February and now I'm stuck with a freezer full of blueberry bagels that I can't even give away, so has anyone else gotten burned on a trade that sounded better than it actually was?

Yeah, that thing about trading being "simpler" always makes me chuckle a bit. I mean, it sounds straightforward on paper, but you're basically adding a whole extra layer of figuring out what the other person's stuff is actually worth. A freezer full of blueberry bagels sounds like a great deal in February, but then June rolls around and you're still eating them. It's not really simpler, it's just swapping one kind of hassle for a different one.

It’s funny how we always think trading will be simpler than it really is.

Simpler" being the key word there, ain't it.
