Vent: Used to panic-clean my whole apartment during slow weeks, now I just nap

Back in 2021 when I first started freelancing, every slow week sent me into a spiral. I'd reorganize my spice rack alphabetically, scrub baseboards, and even alphabetized my bookshelf three times in one month. My kitchen counters were so clean you could eat off them, but my bank account was a mess. Now I keep a list of cheap skill builders I actually want to try. Like last Tuesday I spent two hours learning how to make custom brushes in Procreate instead of dusting ceiling fans. The weird part is I still get the urge to scrub something when work dries up. But now I ask myself if this is really helping or if my brain is just avoiding doing nothing. Has anyone else turned slow seasons into weird little learning windows or is it just me?

Honestly read something the other day about how cleaning can be a form of avoidance dressed up as productivity. Makes sense because I used to scrub my truck cab spotless when I was stressing about money instead of actually dealing with the problem. Napping or learning something small is probably healthier in the long run.

Yeah I kinda disagree with this. Cleaning and organizing actually gives me a sense of control when work is slow, and that calm headspace helps me land new clients later. Learning new skills is fine but sometimes you just need to reset your environment instead of your resume.

Exactly this @michael_williams. Small wins stack up into big momentum.
