Just had my QuickBooks self-employed glitch out and lose 3 months of mileage tracking
I noticed last Thursday that my mileage deductions dropped by about $600 because the app somehow didn't sync 87 trips from July through September, and now I'm manually re-entering them from my Google Maps history - has anyone else had their accounting software just randomly dump data like that?

vanished into thin air" makes it sound dramatic, but it's just a software bug, not the end of the world.

That sounds like a total nightmare, didn't it just vanish into thin air? A buddy of mine had a similar thing happen with his QuickBooks Self-Employed last spring, he lost about two months of expense receipts right when he was doing his quarterly estimate. He ended up spending like three weekends digging through bank statements and email receipts to piece it all back together, it was a mess. The weird part was that the app showed everything fine one day and then just showed zero for those months the next morning, no warning or anything. He even called support and they basically said "sorry, that's a known glitch" and offered him a free month of service, which he felt was a pretty weak fix. Ever since then he's been taking screenshots of his mileage log every week, just in case it decides to bail on him again.

Oh this is a really good point because it makes me wonder - did your buddy ever link his bank account to QuickBooks? I had a different issue where my accounting software somehow duplicated all my transactions from my linked bank account, so it looked like I had twice the expenses. Support told me the same thing, "known glitch," and I had to manually delete like 400 duplicates. The screenshots thing is smart but honestly feels like putting a bandaid on a broken leg. What really bugs me is how they just throw a free month at you like that fixes the hours of work you lost. At this point I'm half surprised these programs don't have some kind of automatic backup feature built into the app itself.
