Had to pick between my big winter coat and a space bag for a flight to Boston last week

I chose the space bag thinking I'd just vacuum-pack the coat, but the bag leaked and my coat came out looking like a wrinkled crime scene. Has anyone else had a space bag fail on them mid-trip?

Oh man, that's rough! I had the exact same thing happen to me, @white.keith, on a trip to Chicago last February. I used one of those space bags for my heavy parka and the air came back in overnight, so the coat was all bunched up and wrinkled. It took up twice the room it was supposed to and I had to sit on my suitcase just to get it closed.

I had one of those bags split a seam on a flight to Denver last winter. My coat ended up taking up half my suitcase anyway, so it kind of defeated the whole purpose.

Same thing happened to my sister with a vacuum bag on a trip to Boston. She spent like 10 minutes trying to get the air out and then the whole thing just popped open in her suitcase. Now she just rolls her coats tight and stuffs them in the bottom of her bag.
