My dad said 'just take the first offer' on a $3,200 web build and I lost $800 immediately

I was so nervous about quoting too high that I accepted a lowball offer on the spot, then found out later the guy had a $5k budget the whole time - has anyone else been burned by taking advice from someone who doesn't freelance?

Rode that same train last year. My uncle told me to just be happy someone wanted to pay me for my work so I took a $1,500 logo and site package that took me three weeks to build. Found out after the client bragged at a barbecue they would have paid $3,500 easy. Never again. You learn that non-freelancers just see dollar signs and don't understand the time we put in, right?

Heard a podcast say that exact thing @charlieh74 - painful lesson but a good one.

Heard you loud and clear @charlieh74. I used to be the same way, thought any paycheck was better than none. Took a $200 logo for a local shop once, spent a whole weekend on it, and saw them slap it on a billboard later. That stung. Really changed how I value my own time now, you know?
