Should I have pushed back on that rush job or just eaten the late penalty?

I took on a logo redesign Tuesday that had a 24-hour deadline, finished it 6 hours late, lost $50 in late fees, but knowing my process, is charging a rush premium better than accepting the delay penalty when you know you're slow at starting?

Back in 2019 I lost $200 on a T-shirt job because I didn't push back on specs I knew I couldn't meet.

@cora_west5 had it worse, but rushing always burns you more than the penalty later on.
