The myth of the 4-hour workday is hurting freelancers more than helping

I keep seeing these gurus online bragging about working 4 hours a day and making six figures. Last month I tracked my own hours for a week and hit 55 hours just to keep three projects moving. This fantasy of a short workday sets people up to feel like failures when they're actually just grinding like normal business owners. Has anyone else noticed that the people selling this dream are usually the ones selling courses on how to do it?

I get that, @kim_davis. I read this article recently that talked about how a lot of those "short workday" fantasies come from people who've never actually tried to run a small business or manage a real team. It said the whole idea falls apart the second you have to actually do the work yourself, like scheduling deliveries or dealing with customer complaints. I used to think a 4-day week would fix everything, but after a few years of freelancing, I realize the problem is more about having too many tasks, not the hours themselves. Your mileage may vary though, because I know some people make it work with really strict boundaries.

@kim_davis Same. I just hit 55 hours and my "4 hour day" was actually me napping at my desk.
