Warning: that "set your own hours" dream is a trap if you don't block out time

I overheard a guy at the coffee shop on Peachtree last week bragging about how he works "whenever he wants" as a freelancer. Meanwhile I'm over here with three deadlines hitting Friday and no structure at all. That's when it hit me - working alone means nobody's going to build your schedule for you. I started treating 9-11 AM as my non-negotiable work block, no exceptions, and it's saved my sanity. Anyone else have a simple routine that keeps them from spiraling into burnout?

...and that's exactly what I noticed when I started delivering. People think they can just wing it, but even the old timers who've been on the road twenty years still have a set start time every morning. It's like how you see folks at the grocery store who look lost because they didn't make a list. Same thing happens with work, you wander around all day and end up getting nothing done until panic sets in. Having that anchor time, even just an hour or two, makes everything else fall into place.

Twenty years and they still clock in at the same time every day?

Totally agree @tessap97, I block 7-9am for deep work and it's the only reason I finish anything.
