Our old basement had a manual timer for the hot water heater

My dad used to turn a knob on our hot water heater every night. It was his way to cut down on electricity use. Now, my parents have a gadget that does it all by itself. Kind of neat how things got simpler over the years. It shows how little changes in the house can add up.

No way! Having to manually twist a knob on the water heater every single night seems insane. That's a lot of commitment just to shave off a bit from the power bill. It's pretty awesome how a simple timer gadget now handles all that. Really shows how much easier things have gotten.

Actually that timer gadget just adds more stuff that can break. Manually turning it was simple and you always knew it would work.

Set timer for off-peak hours, max savings.

Twisting the knob each night really isn't that big a deal once you get into the habit. You avoid adding another device that can break or need programming. I mean, sometimes the old way is just more straightforward and reliable.
