Grabbed the wrong USB drives for a wedding shoot

I was covering a wedding in Portland last summer and grabbed what I thought was my backup card. Got home and realized I had pulled a blank card from my glovebox instead of the one with the first half of the ceremony. Had to call the bride and ask if anyone had video on their phone. She was cool about it but I felt like an idiot for a week. Anyone else ever mix up gear like that?

Done that with SD cards before.

Stick with the ones that have the metal contacts exposed on both ends... I've had a few of the plastic shell types split open on me. @the_rowan got it right, SD cards are just as bad when you're swapping them between cameras and readers. Always push straight in and out, never at an angle or you'll bend the pins inside the slot.

Ugh, the "push straight in and out" thing is something I learned the hard way too. I mean, I bent a pin in my card reader once trying to jam a card in at a bad angle and it was a total disaster. It's crazy how such a small mistake can mess up your whole workflow for a shoot, especially when you're rushing between locations like that wedding. Idk, maybe it's just me but I feel like the stress of trying to be fast makes me do dumb stuff with my gear every single time.
