Why does everyone say to never post your rates on your website? I did and it worked great.
I put my hourly rate right on my fencing installation services page six months ago, figuring it would scare off cheap clients before they even called. Instead I got three serious jobs in the first week from people who said they appreciated knowing the cost upfront, no haggling. Did anyone else try this and have it actually help or was I just lucky?

Oh man, I tried that with my dog walking and one guy emailed me just to argue about the price.

Funny, I read a study last year that said clients actually trust you more when you list a price. They feel like you're being straight with them. @abby_fisher, that guy sounds like a time waster anyway, so it worked out even if it didn't feel like it. I think you hit the sweet spot where your rate was reasonable enough to not chase people off but high enough to filter out the tire kickers.

Friend of mine did the same thing with her reiki sessions. She put her prices on her website and got this one guy who emailed her a whole essay about how she should be charging less because "energy work should be accessible." Like, okay dude, but you're emailing me from an iPhone. She replied back saying her rates were firm and he could look elsewhere if he wanted. He actually came back a month later and booked a session at full price. Said he respected that she knew her worth. Sometimes people just need to test the waters, you know?
