What happened when a client told me my emails were too wordy - did I overcorrect?
A client last month straight up said my emails were 'a wall of text' and they almost missed a deadline because of it. So I switched to bullet points and short sentences, like 3 lines max per paragraph. But now a different client asked if I was being rude because my replies feel too short. Has anyone else found a middle ground on email length that works?

Amen! Try a short greeting line then jump straight to the point in plain text.

Wait, people actually do that? I've had customers write me a three paragraph email just to ask if we carry a certain size of screw. Like, "Hello, I hope this message finds you well. I was wondering if you might possibly have, in your esteemed establishment, a number six by three-quarter inch Phillips head screw." Just ask me if we have the damn screw. I delete those emails almost immediately.

Oh man, this is way too real. People really think they're writing a formal letter to the president or something instead of just asking a simple question.

Is it just me or does “esteemed establishment” feel a little sarcastic (like maybe they're poking fun at you)?
