Overheard a guy at Micro Center say 'you're just paying for the name' about thermal paste and it hit me
I spent $15 on Noctua paste for years, but his point about Arctic Silver being 90% as good for $3 made me switch last week. Has anyone else found a cheap alternative that actually holds up?

Honestly, "you're just paying for the name" stung because I've been that sucker for years. I used to buy the expensive Noctua paste thinking I was some kind of cooling genius. Switched to Arctic Silver a few months ago and my temps barely budged, maybe a degree or two if I'm being picky. I guess my wallet was the main thing getting cooled down by that $15 tube. Now I just buy whatever cheap tube is on the shelf and call it a day, because my computer runs hot enough to fry an egg on the side panel anyway.

Gotta disagree, a quality paste makes a real difference if you're pushing overclocks or running a hot chip.
