Question about those new mesh Wi-Fi routers at the airport lounge

I was stuck at the Denver airport last Friday for a 3 hour layover and decided to camp out in the lounge. I noticed they just installed these new mesh Wi-Fi nodes every 20 feet along the hallway. My connection stayed rock solid even when I walked all the way to the far snack bar, which never happened before with the old setup. Anyone else seen these mesh systems popping up in busy public spaces and noticed a difference?

The signal might be steady, but I actually think those mesh setups create more problems in crowded spaces. All those nodes crammed together in a lounge just means your device bounces between them constantly, which drains your battery faster. I noticed this at the Phoenix airport last month, my phone kept jumping from node to node even when I was sitting still. The old single router setup wasn't perfect, but at least you didn't have your connection dropping out every time someone walked past with a suitcase. A strong single access point would serve people better than this scattered approach.

Haha my buddy had the exact same thing happen at the Denver lounge last week! He was walking over to grab a bag of pretzels and his phone kept switching between nodes like crazy every time someone walked near him. @kellyallen you're totally right about the battery drain, his phone went from 80% to 30% in like an hour just sitting there. The old single router might have been spotty but at least it didn't make your device work harder than a gym membership.

My phone finally connects faster than my ability to trip over luggage!
