Wasted $600 on a "done-for-you" website package that was just a template with my logo slapped on it

The guy literally used a free Elementor template, changed the colors, and charged me $600 for something I could have built in 3 hours, has anyone else gotten burned by these quick-buck web dev gigs?

$600 for an Elementor template with swapped colors? My jaw literally dropped when I read that. I mean I know templates save time but charging that much for basically clicking "import demo" and changing the hex codes feels like highway robbery. There are gigs on Fiverr that'll do that same thing for like $50 if you look around. The worst part is he probably didn't even offer any actual strategy or copywriting help either.

Gotta agree with @abbyhall, that price tag is wild for something so basic.

Hold up, did you actually tell him what you wanted before he started? I get being mad but $600 is pretty standard for a basic website setup if you factor in the time for meetings, revisions, and actually figuring out what you need. Templates aren't automatically bad. They save time and money compared to custom coding. You're paying for them to handle the setup, domain, hosting, and all the annoying tech stuff that most people don't want to deal with. If you wanted a fully custom design from scratch you probably should have asked for that upfront or looked at agencies that charge $2000+.
