I finally tested raising my rates by 30% last week and nobody flinched.
I've been charging $50 an hour for writing gigs since 2021. Last Monday I bumped it to $65 cold turkey for a new client I found on a local forum. They didn't question it once and even asked about a monthly retainer. I think I've been undervaluing myself this whole time because I was scared of losing work. Has anyone else tried a big jump like that and had it just work out fine?

Jumped mine from $40 to $75 for one project last year and the client actually said they were relieved because they thought I was too cheap before. Makes me wonder if there's a whole market of people who won't even look at you unless you're in a certain price range. Might be worth testing even higher just to see where the ceiling actually is. My guess is you left money on the table a lot longer than you had to.

Raised mine from $45 to $70 last month and got two referrals the same week.

Hold on, I think you might be mixing up referrals with something else. Getting two referrals the same week you raised your rates is great, but that's not really a sign that higher prices bring in more business on their own. It could just mean your timing was lucky or those referrals came from past work. The real test would be if you got more leads from cold traffic or new clients who didn't know you before. I'd be careful about reading too much into a one-week spike, you know? You should track it over a few months before you assume the higher price is the reason. Otherwise you might chase a strategy that doesn't actually hold up long-term.
