The time a client offered me $50 for a full website redesign and called it 'exposure'
I still laugh about this one. Some guy on LinkedIn messaged me saying his startup would be 'huge' and he could pay me $50 for a full 5-page website redesign. I asked if he was serious and he said 'well, you'll get exposure to my 200 followers.' I told him my lowest rate for that kind of work is $1,200 and he called me greedy. Has anyone else gotten offers that were just wildly out of touch like that?

My shop had this customer once who wanted a full breed-specific grooming package for like $25. Said it would be great for my business because her dog was "Instagram famous" with 300 followers. I told her my price list is on the wall and the cost is $65 minimum for a small dog. She tried the same guilt trip, called me greedy for not seeing the opportunity. I just handed her a card and said if she changes her mind, my doors are open. Never heard from her again but honestly those are the ones you just gotta smile and let walk out.

Funny how people think their 200 followers are worth anything... exposure doesnt pay the bills. What ended up working for me was just being super upfront about my rates before even getting into details. Right when they message I give them a quick rundown of what i charge and what that includes. Saves time and filters out the time wasters. That guy calling you greedy was just trying to guilt you into working for free, which is honestly the worst kind of client.
