That moment I realized my portfolio was making me look outdated

Last month a random dev I met at a meetup glanced at my site and said 'this feels like 2019.' I laughed it off but then I checked my own analytics and saw people were bouncing in under 10 seconds. Turns out my gradient-heavy logo and stock photos were screaming 'hobbyist' instead of 'pro.' I redid everything with flat design and real screenshots and my inquiry rate doubled in 3 weeks. Has anyone else had a portfolio piece quietly hurting their chances without realizing it?

honestly i kinda disagree, i feel like the whole "clean flat design" thing is getting played out too. everyone's site looks the same now, all those boring sans serif fonts and minimalist layouts. the gradient thing might have been a bit much but at least it showed some personality lol. i think people bounce for different reasons and maybe they just weren't your target audience anyway.

Huh, is it really that deep though? Like yeah if your site looks super dated maybe tweak it, but doubling your clients in 3 weeks sounds like it could have just been timing or better luck, not a total redesign. I bet most people aren't scrolling long enough to even notice a gradient.

Brooke ive seen people leave a site in under 3 seconds because the font was too small.
