Stumbled on the home office deduction trick after years of guessing wrong
I used to just wing my home office deduction every year, like claiming a flat percentage of my rent without measuring anything. Then last tax season my accountant asked me to actually map out the square footage of my workspace. Turns out my spare bedroom is 12 feet by 14 feet, which gave me 168 square feet out of my 1,200 foot apartment. That simple measurement boosted my deduction by about $400 compared to my old guesswork method. Has anyone else realized they were leaving money on the table by not measuring their space?

That measuring tape really earns its keep, like checking if a couch fits vs guessing and hoping for the best.

Isn't it funny how just taking a few extra minutes to actually measure things can make such a difference? It's like that for a lot of stuff in life, we guess when the real answer is right in front of us.
