Three days to fix a $47 decimal error on my Schedule C

I spent all last weekend digging through six months of receipts because I put a decimal in the wrong spot on my mileage deduction. Ended up being off by $47 but the IRS notice was so confusing I thought I owed way more. Has anyone else had a tiny math mistake turn into a whole weekend of panic?

Three days to fix a $47 decimal error" - that's the IRS version of finding a needle in a haystack and realizing it's just a paperclip. At least you didn't throw the whole haystack away like I almost did.

$47 is $47. You earned that money. Three days is reasonable for keeping what's yours.

Why does the IRS treat a decimal error like we're trying to pull one over on them for a coffee and donut? I once called about an overpayment of $12 and they asked for my entire W2 history like I had a secret vault of cash hidden under my mattress. After two hours on hold, they said "oh, we see it now, just give us 90 days to process the refund." I spent the whole time wondering if I could just write it off as a lesson learned and move on. Instead I got a nice little check for $12.37 three months later, which felt more like a weird trophy than actual money.
